A painter working in greater Philadelphia, John Gwinn will present a showing of his recent work at his own studio in Narberth, PA. The upcoming show will feature John’s most recent work including paintings of flowers.

The showing is scheduled for Friday, July 20, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. John’s personal studio is located at 103 Dudley Avenue, Narberth, PA 19072.

As he is asked so often about the paints and brushes that he uses to create his Abstract art, John Gwinn has shared a few photos of his paint palettes and brushes. The photos were taken at John’s studio in Pottstown, PA.

Check out the photos in the gallery above to see the range of colors that go into a “John Gwinn”. Note the many different sizes and types of brushes that John uses on a daily basis.

To help demonstrate this incremental creative process, John has shared four photos of a single painting, entitled Burning of Norfolk Navy Yard, 1861. The photos highlight the development of the art as John added more colors and different highlights to the piece. The painting took three weeks to complete from blank canvas to finished piece.

As John’s sense of ‘abstract’ develops over time, his art continues to change and progress as well. John has recently taken his work in a bolder, simpler direction. Bright colors and thick, heavy brush strokes fill the canvas and dance with a definite exuberance.

This will be John’s third showing at The Great Frame Up. The show is a great opportunity to pick up a very special present for your loved ones — or to treat yourself to a unique piece of art from a Philadelphia area artist.

By the way, John often paints to the jazz sounds of Lester Young and a range of classical music.

The summer has been a busy summer for John Gwinn.  Working diligently in his studio in Pottstown, PA, John has produced dozens of new abstract paintings on canvas of all sizes.  Excited to be focusing his efforts on abstract painting again, John has described his summer as very productive.  Certainly his studio reflects this flow of creativity — new paintings adorn the walls with bright splashes of color and energy.

As a working artist, John welcomes visitors to his studio.  Additionally, he is happy to meet art enthusiasts and collectors at Franklin Commons, a multi-use facility in Phoenixville, PA, where more than 150 of his artworks adorn the walls.

John Gwinn has been very busy in his Pottstown studio. Working away in the downtown of the historic village, John has been creating a new steady flow of artwork that draw inspiration “fluidity”. As John explains, “I am feeling the powerful thrust of joyous enthusiasm about my new work. I’d like to say more, but maybe simple statements about the fluidity I see best describes what I’m going for.”

For those fans who enjoyed John’s artwork featuring chickens, John has reported that he will be doing some new paintings with chickens as my inspiration.

Located in historic Pottstown, PA, Churchill Inc. is a European style pastry and coffee shop, offering amazing handmade chocolates, wedding and occasion cakes right in the center of a very quaint downtown area.  A collection of John’s abstract art — both large and small paintings — will be on display in the month of May, starting on May 07.  All of the paintings on display will be for sale.

John maintains a studio just down the street from Churchill Inc., so if you’d like to discuss his work over a cup of coffee, please do get in touch.

In approaching the work, John will use several photographs of the collector’s daughter.  John suggested that the work would take about 2 to 4 months, allowing him time to creatively review, consider and approach the work.
